When can I get my MOT completed?

You must have a valid MOT on your car from when the car is 3 years old.  You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date.  (ie, If your MOT runs out on 15 May, the earliest you can get an MOT to keep the same renewal date for next year is 16 April)

We have timed slots for your convenience.

What happens if I forget my MOT?

It’s a legal requirement, so please don’t let the date slip or you’ll invalidate your insurance, and you can be fined up to £1,000.

You can check a vehicles MOT HISTORY, check when an MOT is due on MOT STATUS  or make use of the

DVLA’s REMINDER SERVICE

What is the difference between an MOT and a Service?

An MOT is an annual test that is required by law and comprises safety-critical components.  It is regulated by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) who have strict criteria that determines if your vehicle is fit for purpose and in roadworthy condition.   Every Test Centre has to adhere to strict guidelines.  Our MOT Test Centre and Testers are monitored rigorously.

An MOT pass certificate means the vehicle meets the minimum road safety and environmental standards set out by the DVSA.  The MOT tester is not permitted to dismantle any components and can only make judgements on the condition of the vehicle on the day it is tested.  Therefore, the MOT test does not give any indication of its mechanical condition.  So while safety-critical things like lights, tyres, brakes, and seatbelts are covered in the MOT test, things such as your engine, clutch or gearbox are not.  That’s where a service is needed.  A lot can happen in a year and it is your responsibility to ensure your car is roadworthy.  Only regular checks and maintenance can ensure you are as roadworthy as you can be.  If you can’t do this, it can invalidate your insurance.

An Annual Service is a thorough inspection that covers the full health of the vehicle.  It includes the regular replacement of engine oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, etc.  It’s aim is to keep you safe and roadworthy for 12 months.  It helps the vehicle remain in top condition.  It prevents unwanted breakdowns, major costly repairs or causation of irreparable damage to the engine.  It also helps the environment.

Can I be assured of a fair MOT test?

Absolutely!  We pride ourselves on being trustworthy, and we are also heavily regulated by the DVSA.  Our team are based in a separate workshop and monitored on their performance to ensure every vehicle receives the correct attention.  They have no reason to fail your vehicle as there are no bonuses allocated for upsell, so you can be assured of a fair test 🙂

Can I see my car being worked on?

Whilst we are unable to let you into the our MOT Test Centre, we have cameras set up so that you can watch you car being tested from the luxury of our waiting area.

Is there an affiliation with Redbourn MOT Centre?

No.  It is a common misconception, but we are two independent businesses and not associated with each other in any way.

You’ll find us tucked away in Redbourn Industrial Estate beside the river where you can either utilise our waiting area or take the time to visit the Pudding Stop which sell some unbelievably good pastries and coffee!
